Delete your Terrayap data
This page explains how to delete specific Terrayap data without deleting your entire account. If you want to remove your account and everything tied to it, see Delete your account instead.
What Terrayap stores about you
- Your phone number, display name, profile photo, language and other settings.
- Messages you have sent or received (text, voice notes, images, files).
- Translations generated for your messages.
- Your voice profile, if you recorded one, and the model derived from it.
- Your contacts list — phone numbers you uploaded for matching with other Terrayap users.
- Paired browsers and device sessions.
Delete specific data from inside the app
You can remove any of the following at any time without deleting your account:
- Delete a single message: long-press a message and choose Delete for Me or Delete for Everyone. The same control works on voice call entries.
- Clear an entire chat: open the contact, tap their name to open Contact Info, and choose Clear Chat. Every message and call entry in that conversation is hidden from your view.
- Delete a contact: Contact Info → Delete Contact. Removes them from your Terrayap contacts and your nickname for them.
- Block a contact: Contact Info → Block Contact. Prevents them from sending you messages or calling you.
- Delete your voice profile: Settings → Voice Profile → remove your recorded sample. The third-party voice model derived from it is also deleted.
- Unlink a paired browser or device: Settings → Linked Devices → tap Remove next to the device. Its session is revoked.
Automatic retention
Even without any action from you, Terrayap automatically deletes most data on a schedule:
- Media files (images, voice notes, translated audio) are deleted from our servers approximately 24 hours after delivery.
- Message text and translations are retained for up to 90 days after delivery, then permanently deleted by a nightly job.
Local caches on your device
Terrayap also caches media locally on your phone or paired browser so chats stay viewable when you are offline or after the server-side media has been deleted. Local caches are cleared automatically when you:
- Clear or delete a chat.
- Sign out of the app.
- Uninstall the app from your phone (or close the paired browser tab).
